Russia, Kazakhstan extradite three Azerbaijani nationals
Three Azerbaijani nationals have been extradited from Russia and Kazakhstan following requests from Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor’s Office, the authorities have confirmed.
Ruad Mammadov, Khayal Askerov, and Zaur Eyyubov were wanted under the 2002 Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Mammadov and Askerov faced allegations of large-scale fraud. Both had evaded preliminary investigations and were placed on international wanted lists. They were detained in Russia and transported to Azerbaijan under the supervision of a special escort from the Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service.
Eyyubov had been charged in connection with a theft case in the Yasamal District Court. Having absconded from the judicial process, he was placed on an international wanted list and apprehended in Kazakhstan. He was also returned to Azerbaijan under special escort.
The extraditions highlight Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to pursue individuals suspected of serious criminal offences abroad.
