Russia launches wave of attacks on Ukraine’s railway system VIDEO
Russia carried out strikes on railway infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, wrote on Telegram.
“Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways] is once again under attack. Today, May 5, at around 07:30 in the Kharkiv region, an enemy UAV attacked and destroyed a railcar. But the main thing is that people are safe. The monitoring centre was activated, thanks to which the conductor moved to a mobile shelter in time. The locomotive crew was also safe. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties,” Kuleba said.
He added that in the Poltava region, an enemy drone struck between railway tracks near a locomotive. There were no injuries, but a railcar was damaged, and a fire broke out as a result of the explosion.
Another strike targeted a station in the Dnipropetrovsk region. During the drone attack, an electric locomotive on the track was damaged. The train had been stopped earlier due to a drone threat, and railway staff had been warned in advance and had taken shelter. No casualties were reported.
“Even under these conditions, we are protecting people. The railway is operating. Traffic continues,” the statement read.
