Russia, Pakistan to sign visa simplification deal

12 May 2026 10:45

Russia and Pakistan are set to sign an agreement to simplify visa procedures for their citizens during the upcoming visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Moscow, according to Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi.

In an interview with TASS, the ambassador said, “We will sign an agreement on simplifying the issuance of visas for citizens of both countries,” confirming that the measure is part of a broader package of bilateral agreements expected to be concluded during the visit.

Tirmizi added that the two countries are also preparing to sign an agreement on cultural cooperation, along with a trade and economic cooperation agreement covering the next five years. “We will sign agreements on Russian investments in the medical sector and in the industrial sector of Pakistan,” he said.

The diplomat further revealed that discussions have already begun regarding Pakistan’s potential engagement with the Eurasian Economic Union through a free trade arrangement. “We have also already started negotiations on joining the Eurasian Economic Union within the framework of a free trade agreement,” he noted.

Highlighting the broader agenda of the visit, Tirmizi said: “So there will be a lot to discuss. Of course, both countries will also consider the regional, bilateral and international situation.”
