Russia plans new restrictions for citizens abroad
The Russian State Duma is set to consider legislation introducing additional temporary restrictions on Russian citizens living abroad who have been convicted of crimes or certain administrative offences.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, told Russian media that the measures would include suspending property registration in Russia, freezing bank accounts and other assets, limiting the operation of vehicles, denying access to state and municipal e-services, and banning registration as an individual entrepreneur.
Decisions on imposing the measures would be taken by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, and a list of individuals subject to restrictions is expected to be published online.
Volodin stressed that even while outside Russia, citizens should remain aware that they are accountable for their actions.
