Russia, Venezuela to cement long-standing ties with strategic partnership agreement
Russia and Venezuela are preparing to sign a treaty establishing a strategic partnership and cooperation between the two nations, Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia, Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez, stated.
Speaking at a flower-laying ceremony at the Simon Bolivar monument in Moscow, marking the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Salazar Velasquez highlighted the rapid growth in their bilateral ties over the past eight decades, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He emphasized that the upcoming high-level cooperation treaty signifies the deepening of their relationship.
"For 80 years, Russia and Venezuela have been advancing their relations, and this accelerated pace has led to the imminent signing of a high-level cooperation treaty," said the ambassador.
He further underscored the shared vision between Moscow and Caracas, stating, "We both advocate for a multipolar world and oppose unilateralism. This vision also contributes to the emergence of a multipolar world, and Russia plays a leading role in this process."
Salazar Velasquez expressed optimism for the future, saying, "On this special day, we will make even more efforts to ensure that our ties, bonds of friendship, and cooperation continue to strengthen for years and centuries to come."
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko extended an invitation to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to visit Russia in 2025, during which the strategic partnership agreement will be signed.
Russia and Venezuela share common goals, particularly in fighting neocolonialism and supporting a multipolar world order. Alexander Shchetinin, Director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized these points at the same event. He noted that the two countries stand united under President Maduro’s leadership in promoting the fight against neocolonialism while advocating for a fair and democratic global system.
Shchetinin also praised the historical roots of their partnership, pointing to the contributions of Simon Bolivar’s generation, which laid the foundations for Russian-Venezuelan relations. He concluded, "We are united in continuing to move into the future together, building relations in accordance with the fundamental interests of our states. Long live our friendship, together we will win!"
The ceremony, which included diplomats, business and social representatives, and Venezuelan students in Moscow, featured a wreath and flowers in the colours of both national flags, placed at the foot of the Simon Bolivar monument. Venezuelan musicians also performed during the event.
