Russian forces launch drone attack on Ukraine from five directions
On the night of August 25, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone assault on Ukraine, deploying 104 Shahed-type attack drones and drone decoys from five different directions, according to the Ukrainian Air Forces.
The drones were launched from the regions of Kursk, Shatalovo, Orel, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Ukrainian defence forces mounted a strong response, including aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare teams, drone units, and mobile fire groups, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The majority of the drones were successfully intercepted, with Ukrainian air defences neutralising 76 drones in the northern and eastern parts of the country. However, strikes were confirmed at 15 locations, where 28 drones managed to hit their targets. Debris from downed drones fell in four separate areas.
Explosions were reported overnight in Kharkiv, though details about the attack in the city have yet to be fully disclosed.
The city of Sumy also came under heavy drone attack, with strikes hitting several areas within the Sumy community and additional impacts reported in the nearby Romny community. Fires broke out at the targeted locations.
In a separate strike, Russian forces used guided aerial bombs in the Zaporizhzhia region, causing damage to the area.
