Russian forces launch heavy strike on Kyiv overnight
On the night of February 21 to 22, Russian forces carried out a massive strike on Kyiv, using strike drones and missiles, UNIAN reports, citing the Ukrainian Air Forces and Kyiv City Military Administration head Timur Tkachenko.
An air raid alert in the capital was first issued at 03:56 local time due to the threat of ballistic weapons, followed by the takeoff of a Russian MiG‑31K fighter jet. At 04:39, the Kyiv administration reported the approach of strike drones, and by 06:23, it was confirmed that cruise missiles had been launched.
The attack damaged a residential high-rise in the Sviatoshynskyi district, causing a fire on the building’s roof. Information regarding casualties and the full extent of the damage is being verified, and emergency services are on site.
