Russian foreign minister casts doubt on efficiency of Ukrainian peace summit
A summit aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict, centered on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's "formula," appears unlikely to produce tangible outcomes beyond mere diplomatic gatherings, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by Gazeta.ru.
Lavrov emphasized, "Of course, it (the international summit) will lead to nothing. This understanding is shared by the vast majority of states invited by the West and Kyiv to participate in such discussions."
Reports emerged in January indicating Zelenskyy's successful arrangement of an international summit in Switzerland, intended to revisit the Ukrainian "peace formula."
However, analysts suggest that the primary objective of such gatherings is to garner support from the global South for Ukraine and its Western allies. Despite this ambition, the level of support from Western nations for Ukraine remains less than desired.
In early March, Zelenskyy voiced opposition to Russia's inclusion in the peace summit during a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
Nevertheless, several countries advocate for Moscow's participation in summits and similar initiatives aimed at expediting the conflict's resolution. Notable supporters of Russian involvement include European states like Hungary, Serbia, and Slovakia.
