Russian MFA blasts Armenian myth about "ethnic cleansing" in Karabakh
The accusations made by Armenia against the actions of Russian peacekeepers in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan are destructive, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
Speaking at a conference, she commented on claims made by many Armenian MPs that "Russian peacekeepers failed to fulfil their obligations in Karabakh", according to Caliber.Az, which cites Russian media.
"These claims are visible. They are detrimental in our opinion and, above all, they are not grounded in reality. It is peculiar that they persist," the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
She claimed that these kinds of remarks were an attempt to falsify the truth to escape accountability.
Zakharova also commented on the invented "ethnic cleansing" in Karabakh and, more precisely, blasted the Armenian myth: "I would like to see some facts if there is any document of any international organisation, which Yerevan considers authoritative. If there is any document or any statement that would testify that such 'ethnic cleansing' took place, please provide us with links to this document".
Zakharova went on to say that Russia regrets the lack of proper reaction of the Armenian authorities and human rights structures to the procession of fascist youths in the centre of Yerevan.
"We perceived with deep concern the group of marching fascist youths in the centre of Yerevan on January 1. We are certainly appalled that Armenian law enforcement forces did not in any way prevent the participants of the gathering, who literally demonstrated their orientation on camera, in the presence of the media, raising their hands in Nazi salute," she said.
According to her, Russia is convinced that any manifestation of Nazism must be nipped in the bud.
