Russian MFA describes relations with Armenia as special
Russia and Armenia are bound by special relations and the sincere affection of their peoples, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.
Speaking in an interview with blogger Olga Blagoveshchenskaya, Zakharova noted that Armenia is more than just a sovereign and independent state for Russia, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the diplomat, Armenia is a country with ancient roots and a remarkable cultural heritage, with which Russia shares a unique relationship.
She stressed that the two countries are linked by peace, interstate relations and strategic plans for the further development of bilateral ties.
Zakharova added that Russia has always provided Armenia with assistance and support.
On July 6, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the country remains committed to developing relations with Russia and is interested in continued participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Tensions between Moscow and Yerevan have emerged amid Armenia's efforts to reorient its foreign policy and place greater emphasis on European integration.
The Kremlin has warned that Armenia would not be able to simultaneously remain a member of the EAEU and join the European Union.
