Russian navy thwarts simulated oil rig assault in Caspian Sea exercise
In a high-stakes exercise, the Russian Caspian Flotilla and marine infantry units successfully defended an oil rig in the Caspian Sea from a simulated enemy attack as part of the "Ocean-2024" strategic command and staff exercise.
The drill, which began on September 10 and is set to continue until September 16, involved a comprehensive defence operation by the Caspian Flotilla ships in conjunction with marine troops, Caliber.Az reports.
The exercise was designed to test and enhance the force's ability to protect critical infrastructure in a maritime environment.
During the exercise, Russian forces simulated an enemy assault on an oil production platform located in the Caspian Sea. The operation required the coordination of various units to secure and defend the rig. Combat swimmers and scout divers were deployed to perform reconnaissance around the facility, ensuring that the assault group could approach and take control of the rig safely.
The drill highlighted the capabilities of the Russian naval and marine forces in safeguarding vital infrastructure against potential threats. This exercise is part of a broader series of strategic operations aimed at enhancing readiness and operational effectiveness in maritime security.
