Armenian PM's wife slams clergy as "mad pedophiles" in fiery social media tirade PHOTO

Following the controversial remarks made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about members of the Armenian Church, his common-law wife, Anna Hakobyan, entered the public debate with a series of strong social media posts. 

She launched fierce criticism at the senior clergy, accusing them of hypocrisy, immorality, and fake piety.

According to Caliber.Az, citing Hakobyan’s Facebook posts, she wrote in one message:

"The main pedophiles of the country have gone mad over a single word — ‘closet.’ Naturally, this was bound to happen: closets are the dark corners of the lives of lunatics dressed in black robes. It is in these closets where the perversions take place, which no longer even anger the believing people. The people, long resigned, carry the country’s main insane perverts on their backs."

Her remarks come amid the continuing conflict between Prime Minister Pashinyan and Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who regularly accuses the prime minister of lacking moral and political integrity.

Hakobyan also highlighted two extremes she believes always arise in such disputes:

"We always face two unpleasant phenomena:
Tasteless and tactless ‘fun,’ mockery, and bullying.
False piety, warm advice, and showy tearful outrage.
Both are excessive and pointless."

Her posts triggered a strong reaction on social media, further heating the already tense political and social climate in Armenia.

Earlier, Araik Harutyunyan, the head of the Armenian prime minister’s office, shared photographs on social media showing the actual condition of Armenian churches. These images were released to back Pashinyan’s statement that “most churches in Armenia are used as closets, filled with construction debris.”
