Armenia, Türkiye advance dialogue with positive outlook, FM Mirzoyan says
Armenia has established an intensive and positive dialogue with Türkiye, and progress is expected in the near future, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated.
In an interview with Public Television of Armenia, Mirzoyan cautioned that achieving tangible and concrete results on the ground will take time. He noted that, a month ago, an expert group met to assess the railway junction in Gyumri, Caliber.Az reports.
“The Armenian-Turkish expert group was first on Turkish territory at the relevant section, then crossed into Armenia to conduct its assessment. Work is already underway there,” the minister said.
He declined to provide specific timelines, emphasizing that these developments are inevitable. “These are developments that will naturally unfold because they benefit Armenia, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan. They are also advantageous for all international partners — Europe, Central Asia, the United States, Russia, and Iran,” Mirzoyan added.
Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan suggested that symbolic steps toward the development of Armenian-Turkish relations are expected in 2026.
In a related move, on December 28, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, under agreements reached by special representatives on Armenian-Turkish normalization, starting January 1, 2026, holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports from both countries will be eligible to obtain electronic visas free of charge.
