Iran ready for talks, but won’t bow to economic pressure, president says

26 August 2026 14:44

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Tehran remains committed to resolving disputes through engagement and negotiations but will firmly resist economic pressure from Washington, Iran International reports.

Pezeshkian said measures prepared by his government’s economic officials would prevent the United States from achieving its objectives through economic pressure.

“Just as the United States failed to achieve anything in the war because of the bravery of the armed forces and the support of the people, it will also gain nothing through economic pressure at this stage,” he said.

The Iranian president also defended those who supported the Tehran-Washington memorandum of understanding, rejecting accusations that they had capitulated.

“Those who defended the Islamabad memorandum of understanding care about the country’s dignity and pride. They are not capitulators; they have been present on the battlefield and have put their lives on the line,” he said.
