Kazakhstan looks to Baku-Supsa to diversify oil export routes

26 August 2026 16:52

Kazakhstan is exploring the possible use of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline to transport its crude to international markets, as part of efforts to expand alternative export routes.

Kazakh Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov said that consultations are currently underway with Azerbaijan and interested oil companies on the potential use of the route, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“At present, consultations are being held with the Azerbaijani side and interested oil companies regarding the possible use of the Baku-Supsa route. At the same time, the commercial and technical parameters for transporting oil along this route are being worked out,” he said.

The Kazakh Energy Ministry also said efforts are underway to increase the volume of Kazakh oil transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, further strengthening Azerbaijan’s role as a key transit route for Kazakhstan’s energy exports.
