Former Armenian president transported from hospital to court

26 August 2026 18:11

Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, who is accused of large-scale money laundering, abuse of office and accepting a bribe on a particularly large scale, is being transported from a hospital to the Anti-Corruption Court.

The officials said Kocharyan’s case had only recently been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court and had not yet been assigned to a judge for consideration, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

A motion has also been filed seeking pretrial detention for Kocharyan.

On the morning of August 25, searches were conducted at the home of the second president, his son Levon Kocharyan, and companies owned by his family.

The former Armenian leader and his eldest son Sedrak Kocharyan were detained.

The Anti-Corruption Committee made clear that searches and other procedural actions were being carried out at several dozen addresses as part of the criminal proceedings.
