Turkish defence minister: Armed Forces will not retreat from national interests

31 December 2025 13:56

Türkiye’s Armed Forces will continue to firmly defend the country’s national interests and remain a key pillar of regional and international security, Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler said in his New Year message.

Güler described the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) as an indispensable and effective component of the global security architecture, fulfilling their responsibilities across a vast geography stretching from the Balkans and the Caucasus to the Middle East and Africa, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“The mission of the Turkish Armed Forces is a reflection of our determination to protect the interests of the Republic of Türkiye and its people,” the minister said.

Güler noted that amid growing global uncertainty and the emergence of new risks and threats, Türkiye continues to contribute to peace, stability, and justice through its strong military, multidimensional diplomacy, and resolute leadership.

He emphasised that the Turkish Armed Forces would remain vigilant and “will not retreat from the national interests of the country,” underlining their role in achieving key national objectives, including the fight against terrorism in the region.

In this context, the minister also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Güler further reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to contributing to NATO’s goals and missions, recalling that Türkiye is set to host the NATO summit in 2026.
