New Russian helicopter demonstrates maneuverability in initial test flights VIDEO

The Russian Helicopters holding company has officially commenced flight tests of the prototype Mi-34M1, a light, single-engine, multipurpose helicopter.

The aircraft features the domestically developed VK-650V turboshaft engine from the United Engine Corporation under Rostec, as well as modern Russian-made onboard systems, the state corporation reports.

The initial tests focused on evaluating the helicopter’s stability, maneuverability, and the stress on its main components during horizontal flight and turns.

Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov highlighted the Mi-34M1’s high maneuverability and its ease of piloting and maintenance. He noted that the helicopter is designed primarily for passenger transport, aerial monitoring, flight training, and aviation sports.

The Mi-34M1 is set to fill a market niche previously served only by foreign light helicopters, which are increasingly expensive to operate and not always reliable due to unofficial maintenance practices.
