Russian FSB prevents terrorist attack on school in Adygea, arrests suspect
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted a potential terrorist attack targeting students at a school in the Republic of Adygea.
A suspect, identified as a citizen from one of the Central Asian countries, was detained on charges of planning the attack. Authorities have confirmed that the individual is a supporter of an international terrorist organisation banned in Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The FSB's Public Relations Centre said that the plot was still in the preparation stage when it was uncovered. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, had parked a car near the school, containing ten bottles of a homemade incendiary mixture, two tactical knives, and a flag associated with the terrorist group.
An investigation revealed that the suspect's activities had been coordinated remotely from abroad, primarily through the Telegram messaging platform. This connection was corroborated after a detailed analysis of the suspect’s phone.
The FSB has opened a criminal case under Russian law for an attempted terrorist act, with the investigation being conducted by the agency’s regional department in Adygea.
