Russian nuclear plant survives Ukrainian drone attack
On the night of Tuesday, a combat drone operated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to target the cooling tower of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Rosenergoatom reported on October 7, 2025.
According to the company, the Ukrainian drone was suppressed by technical means before it could cause significant damage.
The drone detonated after colliding with the evaporative cooling tower of operating power unit No. 6.
“There are no destructions and casualties,” Rosenergoatom stated, adding that the detonation left a dark trace on the cooling tower.
The company emphasised that the safety of NPP operations is fully maintained, and the radiation background at the industrial site of the plant and the surrounding territory corresponds to natural values. Law enforcement agencies are currently working at the site.
“This is another act of aggression by the AFU towards Russian nuclear power plants,” the company stressed.
