Russian State Duma expands grounds for dismissal of migrants
The Russian State Duma has passed a law expanding the list of reasons for dismissing migrant workers in Russia.
Restrictions on employment introduced by regional authorities for migrants will now serve as a legal basis for their dismissal, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Duma’s official Telegram channel.
Thus, the new law adds regional regulatory acts of the Russian Federation’s constituent entities to the list of legitimate grounds for termination.
Currently, the Labour Code allows employers to terminate contracts with foreign employees only in accordance with federal laws, presidential decrees or government resolutions.
The amendment expands this list to include regulatory acts adopted by the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin earlier emphasised that improving migration policy remains a key priority for lawmakers.
He noted that regional governments should have greater authority to regulate labour migration, allowing them to fine-tune legislation in this area more effectively.
