Russian strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy: two dead, many hurt PHOTO

Russian attacks across southern and eastern Ukraine on February 22–23, 2026, caused multiple casualties and widespread damage to civilian infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports, citing Telegram channels of the governors of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy regions.

In Zaporizhzhia region, two people were killed and four others injured, said Governoer Ivan Fedorov. Russian forces carried out 754 strikes on 44 settlements over 24 hours, including 28 airstrikes, 487 drone attacks (mostly FPV drones), 4 multiple rocket launcher attacks, and 235 artillery strikes. Authorities reported 56 instances of damage to homes and infrastructure.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched 15 attacks on three districts using artillery, drones, Grad multiple rocket launchers, missiles, and aerial bombs. One man was injured in Pavlohrad district when a sanatorium was shelled, and he received medical treatment, Oleksandr Ganza, wrote in a post. In the region's Nikopol district, the cities and communities of Nikopol, Marhanets, and Pokrovsk were shelled, damaging a private home. In Synelnykove district, a five-story building and an outbuilding burned in Pokrovsk community, and a fire station was damaged.

In Sumy region, civilians were also injured. A 36-year-old man was wounded by a guided aerial bomb in the Sumy community, and a 9-year-old girl received treatment for injuries sustained from a drone strike on February 21. Russian forces carried out over 70 attacks on 21 settlements across 12 territorial communities, damaging or destroying civil infrastructure.

In total, overnight from February 22 to 23, Russia attacked Ukraine with one Iskander-M ballistic missile and 126 attack drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas. About 80 of the drones were Shaheds, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Preliminary reports indicate that by morning, Ukraine’s air defence systems had intercepted or suppressed 105 drones across the north, south, and east of the country.

The attacks resulted in the impact of the ballistic missile and 20 attack drones at 11 locations, with debris from downed drones recorded at one site.
