Russian student arrested after school shooting incident
A ninth-grade student in Chelyabinsk has been arrested after an incident at a school in which he shot a classmate with a signal pistol before jumping from a fourth-floor window, according to law enforcement authorities.
Interfax reported that the court hearing to determine the student’s detention was held in a hospital room, as the suspect remains hospitalised following injuries sustained in the fall.
The incident occurred on March 26, when the teenager brought several items to school, including a plastic crossbow, a signal pistol, and a canister of pepper spray. During the incident, he fired the signal pistol at a classmate. No fatalities were reported.
After the shooting, the student jumped from a fourth-floor window, resulting in injuries that required hospitalisation.
Authorities in the Chelyabinsk region have launched multiple criminal investigations. The Investigative Committee has opened cases on charges including attempted murder of two or more persons, negligence, and the provision of services that fail to meet safety requirements.
