Russian UAV strike hits residential areas in Sumy region PHOTO

Russian forces carried out a UAV strike targeting residential areas in the cities of Shostka and Trostianets in Ukraine’s Sumy region on May 16, 2026.

According to the State Emergency Service, the attack caused fires in residential houses and outbuildings.

“As a result of the shelling, houses and outbuildings were on fire.

Due to the threat of repeated attacks, rescuers temporarily suspended operations and moved to a safe place.

Firefighters extinguished all the fires,” the service said.

Emergency crews were forced to halt their work temporarily because of the risk of repeated strikes before resuming operations. All fires were eventually brought under control.

No casualties were reported.
