Russian, US top diplomats discuss Ukraine conflict, bilateral relations by phone
On May 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation to discuss key issues related to the ongoing Ukraine conflict and broader Russian-American relations.
Lavrov briefed Rubio on the progress in implementing the agreements reached during the May 19 meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports, referencing the Russian Foreign Ministry's Telegram channel.
He also informed the US side about Russia’s preparations for the next round of direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, which are expected to take place in Istanbul.
Secretary Rubio reportedly conveyed President Trump’s commitment to ending the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible and expressed Washington's readiness to support efforts aimed at narrowing the differences between Moscow and Kyiv.
In addition to the Ukraine crisis, the two officials discussed a range of current bilateral issues. Both sides confirmed their mutual interest in maintaining a constructive and respectful dialogue between their respective foreign policy institutions.
