Saudi Arabia puts Israel normalization on hold ahead of elections
Efforts to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel are expected to remain on hold until after parliamentary elections in Israel, scheduled for this autumn, Axios reports.
The report said Riyadh continues to insist that any progress toward normalization must be tied to Israel’s acceptance of the establishment of a Palestinian state. However, the current Israeli government has maintained a firm stance against such a move, complicating prospects for diplomatic advancement.
Saudi Arabia has also adopted a more cautious and skeptical approach toward normalization in light of the ongoing military operation against Iran and growing tensions with the United Arab Emirates.
The development comes amid broader regional diplomatic efforts led by the United States. Axios previously reported that US President Donald Trump had encouraged several Muslim and Arab leaders to join the Abraham Accords with Israel if an agreement is reached to end the war with Iran.
