Saudi citizens sentenced to 2 years for indecent filming at Baku’s Alley of Martyrs PHOTO
A Baku court has handed down prison sentences to three Saudi citizens for indecent conduct at the Alley of Martyrs in the Azerbaijani capital.
The case concluded on December 24, in the Sabail District Court, where Judge Azer Taghiyev presided over the proceedings, Caliber.Az reports.
The defendants – Alzaman Mahdi Ali, Algabir Mohammad Hussein, and Algabir Mahdi Mohammad – were detained by Azerbaijani police in August for filming inappropriate behaviour at the site.
Prosecutors had called for four-year prison terms for each of the accused. After deliberation, the court sentenced all three to two years’ imprisonment in a standard correctional facility. Following the completion of their sentences, the individuals will be deported from Azerbaijan.
In a statement, the defendants expressed regret for their actions, apologising to the Azerbaijani people, the families of martyrs, and veterans. They said they had not understood the significance of the location and described Azerbaijan as a “friendly and dear country”.
On August 18, three foreign tourists in Azerbaijan were detained after filming disrespectful videos at Baku’s Alley of Martyrs and posting them on social media.
