Several Israelis caught attempting illegal border crossing into Syria

Several Israeli citizens arrived in the Mount Hermon area on Thursday, July 9 and attempted to cross the border into Syria, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced on Telegram.

An IDF unit operating in the area prevented the crossing and detained the individuals, who were later handed over to Israeli police for further investigation.

“The IDF strongly condemns this incident, which follows several similar incidents in recent days, and emphasizes that such actions constitute a criminal offense that endangers civilians,” the military said in a statement.

The army noted that such incidents interfere with military operations and regional security, while diverting commanders and troops from their operational duties.

The IDF added that it expects law enforcement authorities to hold those involved fully accountable and take firm action against similar violations.
