Sinkhole disrupts traffic in Egypt's New Cairo Water pipeline leak blamed
02 December 2025 16:01
A sudden sinkhole in New Cairo’s Al Narges 5 district has raised concern among residents and passersby, Al Arabiya reported on December 2.
The incident disrupted traffic in the area, according to eyewitnesses.
Authorities said the sinkhole was likely caused by leaks from a treated-water pipeline and a drinking-water pipeline.
In response, the New Cairo City Development Authority announced that water would be cut off in the affected area and nearby districts until repairs are completed. Water trucks have been deployed to manage the impact and mitigate damage.
While sinkholes have appeared in Cairo over the years, such events remain relatively rare.
