Slovak opposition party seeks to condemn PM Fico’s visit to Moscow
The Slovak opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) is preparing a parliamentary resolution condemning Prime Minister Robert Fico’s planned visit to Moscow for May 9 events.
The draft resolution also aims to criticise any potential meeting between Fico and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Caliber.Az reports, citing Slovak media.
According to SaS, the visit contradicts the EU and NATO line and harms Slovakia’s international standing.
Party leader Branislav Gröhling said the trip “has nothing to do with commemorating the dead” and instead represents support for the Russian leadership amid the war in Ukraine.
He described the visit as “an insult to our allies.”
SaS has previously filed complaints with prosecutors over government actions related to the suspension of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.
