Slovak PM shares message urging Zelenskyy-Putin call after Moscow visit
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, in a video published on Facebook, has disclosed details of his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow on May 9.
In particular, he confirmed that he conveyed to the Russian leader remarks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about his readiness to meet “in any format.”
Fico said he believes that the war between Russia and Ukraine cannot end without negotiations at the leadership level. He stressed that both sides need to seek a peaceful solution, “even if it is not liked by part of European politicians.”
“The answer [from Putin] is obvious. If the Ukrainian president is interested in a meeting, he should contact his Russian counterpart by phone,” Fico said.
In addition to the Ukraine conflict, Fico also discussed energy cooperation between Slovakia and Russia during his talks with Putin.
