Slovenia seeks to expand demining cooperation with Azerbaijan
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanya Fayon has said that cooperation between Slovenia and Azerbaijan in the demining process should be expanded.
Fayon made the remarks at a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov as part of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 24, Report informs citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
While stating that bilateral political and economic cooperation plays an important role, Bayramov noted the need to explore opportunities for developing relations in economy, investments, tourism and other spheres.
The Azerbaijani minister informed his Slovenian colleague about the history of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, Armenia's provocations in the post-conflict period, and large-scale mine threats in the region.
Noting that friendly relations have been established between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, Fayon expressed interest in expanding cooperation in economy and energy.
She noted that Slovenia is cooperating with Azerbaijan in the demining process.
Concern about the tension in our region and the need to solve the problem through diplomacy was expressed, the Slovenian minister added.
The importance of continuing the bilateral political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Slovenia was also emphasised, and views on a number of regional issues were exchanged during the meeting.
