Somali ambassador presents copies of credentials to Azerbaijani FM PHOTO

25 February 2026 18:55

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the newly appointed Somali Ambassador Abdinur Dahir Fidow, who presented copies of his credentials.

The minister congratulated him on his appointment, wished him success in his diplomatic work, and expressed confidence that Somalia’s first resident ambassador in Azerbaijan would make every effort to further develop bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports, citing the foreign ministry.

During the meeting, the current state and prospects for bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia were discussed.

Both sides welcomed the intensification of contacts between the countries and the increase in mutual visits in recent years, including the Somali president’s visit to Azerbaijan in February last year, the subsequent visit of an Azerbaijani government mission to Somalia, the first political consultations between the foreign ministries, and the Somali foreign minister’s visit to Azerbaijan in June.

The parties emphasised the importance of utilising existing potential to deepen cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, agricultural, energy, and other fields, as well as the need for engagement on multilateral international and regional platforms, including the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognised borders.
