South Korea fires three missiles in response to North Korean launches
The South Korean Air Force has launched three air-to-surface missiles into international waters north of the borderline with North Korea.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the missile tests were in response to North Korea’s missile launches.
The South Korean Air Force launched missiles from F-15K and KF-16 aircraft into international waters in the Sea of Japan. The missiles were fired at points at the same distance from the dividing line with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as the North Korean missiles, the Yonhap news agency reports.
“This high-precision shooting demonstrates the readiness of the South Korean military to respond decisively to any provocation, including launches of short-range ballistic missiles from the DPRK, as well as the ability and willingness to deliver an accurate strike against the enemy,” the JCS noted.
North Korea on November 2, launched at least 10 missiles in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. One of them crossed the maritime border with South Korea and fell south of the dividing line in the Sea of Japan. The South Korean military has raised the level of combat readiness. The authorities of the country said that they are considering options for strengthening the deterrence of the nuclear threat from the DPRK.
