South Korea monitors Strait of Hormuz situation amid shipping concerns
South Korea is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East following reports of possible restrictions on maritime traffic, the administration of President Lee Jae Myung said at the Blue House.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated that the government is closely monitoring the situation following statements about potential blockages of shipping routes along key maritime corridors, Caliber.Az reports per South Korean media.
She emphasised that the stability of international transport and freedom of navigation are in the interest of all countries and are guaranteed by international law, expressing hope for a swift normalisation of global logistics chains.
The administration also noted that it is considering various measures to ensure the country’s economic and energy security. According to Kang, the impact on energy supply may persist even after a possible de-escalation of the conflict, prompting the government to prepare appropriate response measures.
