South Korea vows to ensure fair presidential elections

04 April 2025 13:26

The acting President of South Korea, Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo, has promised to guarantee "fair and honest" early elections for the country’s next head of state, following the sudden vacancy in the presidency.

Han stressed the importance of holding a transparent election within the next 60 days, Caliber.Az reports via South Korean News Agency.

Speaking to cabinet members, the Prime Minister urged government bodies to remain politically neutral throughout the process.

"I will do everything possible to ensure the election of the next president is conducted fairly and in accordance with the law, so the new government can begin its work without delay," Han said in a national address.

In addition to his focus on the election process, Han, who is also the acting president, reassured citizens that he would maintain a high level of security preparedness to prevent any disruptions in national security and international relations during the transitional period.

Han further committed to a unified response to ongoing issues, including trade tensions with the United States, and vowed to maintain public order in the face of these challenges.
