Media: Spain’s Ceuta prepares for possible new migrant surge VIDEO

10 August 2026 17:40

Spain’s autonomous city of Ceuta is facing the threat of another influx of migrants from Morocco, prompting the Defence Ministry to cancel all leave for military personnel stationed there, EFE reports.

The president of the Spanish Troops and Seamen Association (ATME), Marco Antonio Gómez, told EFE that the order requires all military personnel currently on leave, whether in Spain or abroad, to return to their units.

He added that “exceptional cases” will be decided at the discretion of the respective unit commander.

The situation in the city has yet to return to normal, 10 days after a mass influx of migrants, and continues to raise concern among Spanish authorities.

Some of those who entered Ceuta from Morocco remain living on the city’s beaches, with many lacking necessities.

Between 1,300 and 4,000 unaccompanied minors may still be in the city.

At the end of July, tens of thousands of migrants reached the autonomous city by swimming or on foot, bypassing the breakwater separating Ceuta from Morocco.

According to the Spanish government, around 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta, of whom approximately 70,000 have already returned to Morocco.
