Spain: Vehicle drives into Espanyol fans, four seriously hurt VIDEO
On the morning of May 16, just hours before the La Liga derby between Espanyol and Barcelona, a serious incident unfolded outside the Stage Front Stadium in Barcelona, involving a vehicle and a group of Espanyol supporters.
According to a report by foreign media, a white passenger car drove into a crowd of fans gathered near the stadium at high speed, Caliber.Az reports.
The vehicle struck multiple individuals, resulting in injuries to at least 14 people. Among the injured, four are reported to be in moderate condition, while the remaining ten sustained minor injuries.
Local police have opened an investigation into the incident. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that it may have been accidental. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver, a woman estimated to be between 45 and 55 years old, may have lost control of the car.
Eyewitness accounts and police sources indicate that the incident began when the woman accidentally struck a female pedestrian. Following the initial impact, a group of nearby fans reportedly began shouting insults and throwing various objects at the car. In what may have been a reaction to stress and panic, the driver is believed to have unintentionally accelerated, causing the vehicle to ram into the crowd.
The woman has since been taken into custody as investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities are working to establish whether the driver’s actions were entirely accidental or if other factors were involved.
