Spain’s Ceuta government representative resigns over wave of insults

Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, the Spanish central government’s representative in Ceuta, has announced his resignation amid the migration crisis.

Pérez Triano is stepping down as head of the government delegation in the autonomous city and will also leave his position as secretary general of the local branch of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, EFE reports.

The politician made the decision after consulting with his family, citing pressure, insults and a campaign aimed at discrediting him.

Ceuta’s latest migration crisis follows a mass influx from Morocco on July 30–31, 2026, involving more than 80,000 people, which left local reception facilities overwhelmed and prompted the creation of additional temporary accommodation and processing capacity.

The episode has also triggered a dispute over whether Spanish authorities received and acted on intelligence warnings beforehand, with declassified communications becoming part of a broader judicial inquiry into the handling of the influx.
