Spanish MP ejected from parliament after displaying pepper spray VIDEO

Spanish opposition lawmaker Ana Vázquez was ordered to leave the Congress of Deputies after displaying a can of pepper spray during a parliamentary debate over security in the autonomous city of Ceuta.

Vázquez, a member of the opposition People’s Party (PP), was addressing Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska about the security situation in Ceuta, which is facing a migration crisis, Caliber.Az reports via Spanish media.

During her remarks, Vázquez held up a canister of pepper spray and described it as a symbol of the restrictions and insecurity faced by women in the North African city.

“This is a symbol of the lack of freedoms faced by the women of Ceuta; it is standard school equipment,” Vázquez said.

“Is this the new normal that the people of Ceuta are supposed to get used to?” she added.

Congress President Francina Armengol intervened, saying that the item displayed by Vázquez was classified as a weapon under parliamentary rules.

“According to Article 101 and the weapons register, the pepper spray canister shown by Ms Vázquez is a weapon,” Armengol said.

She then ordered the PP lawmaker to leave the chamber.
