Spanish PM Sánchez welcomes US–Iran peace agreement

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has welcomed the newly announced peace agreement between the United States and Iran, saying it could end what he described as the “senselessness” of conflict and open the door to a new era in the Middle East.

“We trust that the peace agreement announced today will serve to put an end to this senselessness, that it will be respected by all parties, and that it will thus mark the beginning of a new era in the Middle East,” Sánchez said on the social media platform X.

He highlighted the impact of the conflict in Iran, citing more than 7,400 deaths and extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hundreds of homes, schools, and hospitals.

Sánchez also noted the broader economic consequences of the war, including rising global prices and billions of euros in losses across Europe.

“Let us celebrate. But let us not forget. And let us finally learn that war is a failure. Dialogue and diplomacy are the only path forward,” he added.
