Speculation grows over Kamala Harris' political future: Governor, Supreme Court, or 2028 run
US Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, is now the subject of speculation about her next political move.
According to reports from foreign media, Harris could potentially pursue several paths, including running for governor of California, joining the US Supreme Court, or making another bid for the presidency in 2028, Caliber.Az reports.
Harris, a California native, could run for governor in 2026 when the current governor, Gavin Newsom, is expected to complete his term. Born in Oakland, Harris has deep ties to the state, having served as San Francisco's district attorney and later as California's attorney general.
In addition, legal expert and former congressman Bakari Sellers suggested in an interview with CNN that President Joe Biden could nominate Harris to the Supreme Court, especially if a vacancy arises due to the retirement of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who is 70 years old. Harris, a former prosecutor, could be considered for the high court if the opportunity presents itself before Biden leaves office.
While Newsweek notes that Harris’ political standing may seem uncertain after her loss in the presidential race, history shows that voters' opinions can shift over time. Biden himself ran for president unsuccessfully twice, in 1987 and 2007, before securing the presidency in 2020. Many are watching closely to see if Harris makes another presidential run in 2028.
