Spokesperson: Armenia receives new proposals from Azerbaijan for peace treaty
Armenia has received fresh proposals from Azerbaijan concerning a peace treaty, said spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ani Badalyan.
"Today, we received the Azerbaijani side's responses regarding the draft peace treaty (11th version)," Badalyan stated, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
These developments come amid ongoing discussions aimed at resolving tensions between the two nations and fostering a lasting peace in the region.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan recently announced Armenia's proposal to sign a peace agreement based on previously agreed provisions. However, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has rejected this approach, citing significant differences in viewpoints.
Aykhan Hajizada, a spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, stated that a document cannot be considered agreed upon until all clauses are fully reconciled. He confirmed that approximately 80 per cent of the clauses have been agreed, emphasizing that unresolved issues cannot be overlooked.
Hajizada highlighted that a key condition for advancing the peace process is Armenia's need to amend its Constitution to eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan, asserting that peace cannot be achieved until these claims are removed from Armenian legislation.
