State agency: Azerbaijan bans 238 highly toxic substances to protect public health, environment
The use and circulation of 238 highly toxic substances has been banned in Azerbaijan, taking into account the best international practices for the protection of public health and the environment.
The announcement came from Chairman of the Food Security Agency of Azerbaijan Goshgar Tahmazli during a speech at the Forum on Plant Health "In the Name of Green World", Trend reports.
He noted that the relevant Commission approved the Action Plan to eliminate existing problems in Azerbaijani territories contaminated with unsuitable and prohibited pesticides and agrochemicals, including ammonium nitrate.
"In order to implement the measures envisaged in the plan, working groups consisting of representatives of the relevant structures carried out preliminary assessments to determine the residual amount of pesticides and agrochemicals unsuitable for use and banned for use at 14 sites in 11 districts as a result of monitoring. In total, about 5088 cubic metres of unusable substances and contaminated soil were detected at 11 sites. The work in this direction continues," Tahmazli added.
