Sudanese military aircraft crashes in residential area, killing over 20

26 February 2025 10:36

A Sudanese military aircraft crashed late Tuesday evening, February 25, during takeoff from Wadi Seidna Air Base in Omdurman, west of the capital, Khartoum killing more than 20 people, including military personnel and civilians.

The military statement indicated that emergency teams swiftly transported the wounded for medical care, while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames at the crash site, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Local activist group Karari Resistance Committees confirmed that several bodies and injured individuals were taken to Al-Naw Teaching Hospital.

It is reported that among the deceased is the prominent Sudanese brigadier general, the former commander of the Khartoum military district, Bahar Ahmed.

Sudanese social media platforms shared footage showing the wreckage of a burning aircraft. The cause of the crash, the type of aircraft involved, and the exact number of casualties remain unclear.

As a reminder, the crash occurs amid ongoing conflict between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has devastated the country since mid-April 2023. The conflict has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced 14 million people, according to UN and local reports, though estimates from US universities place the death toll at approximately 130,000.
