Sweden arrests Russian citizen at US request
Sweden has arrested a Russian citizen over alleged violations of US sanctions legislation at the request of the United States, broadcaster TV4 has reported.
The Swedish Security Service detained the Russian national, who had been placed on an international wanted list by US authorities. According to TV4, the man has been held in custody for several months.
“The man is suspected of committing a serious violation of the US sanctions regime between 2022 and 2023, and American authorities have requested his extradition. The Stockholm District Court has ordered his detention pending approval of the extradition by the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court and the Government of Sweden,” the report said.
Swedish law enforcement agencies have declined to disclose details of the charges, citing the confidentiality of the US investigation. The detainee’s name and other identifying information have not been released.
