Sweden detains captain of sanctioned vessel linked to Russia’s shadow fleet

A captain of the sanctioned vessel Jin Hui, which may be connected to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” has been arrested in Sweden. The individual is suspected of using forged documents and violating maritime safety regulations.

According to Swedish prosecutor Adrien Combier-Hogg, the detention took place after the Swedish Coast Guard stopped the vessel on Sunday, May 3. The captain, a Chinese national, was taken into custody on multiple charges.

The suspect is scheduled to be questioned on May 4.
