Sweden summons Russian ambassador over missile strike on EU offices in Kyiv
Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian ambassador to the kingdom, Sergey Belyaev.
According to a statement from the ministry, the ambassador was called in following a missile strike carried out by Russian forces on the European Union offices in Kyiv on August 28.
The ministry said in its press release: “Today, August 29, the Russian ambassador was summoned.”
On the night of August 28, 2025, Kyiv endured a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault, resulting in at least 22 confirmed fatalities, including four children, and over 45 injuries. The attack struck over 20 locations across Kyiv, affecting around 100 sites in total, and also caused damage to the European Union’s delegation office in the city.
In the Darnytskyi district, a high-rise residential building was destroyed, trapping residents under debris. Rescue operations are ongoing. In central Kyiv, a shopping centre sustained significant damage, contributing to the widespread devastation.
Ukrainian authorities have deployed emergency aircraft to assist in managing the aftermath of the strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, highlighting the targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure.
