Sweden unveils €116 million humanitarian aid package for Ukraine ahead of winter

29 September 2025 21:03

Sweden has announced a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine worth 1.1 billion Swedish kronor (over €116 million), aimed at bolstering the country’s resilience ahead of the approaching winter.

The announcement was made by the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine via social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

The allocated funds will be directed "toward Ukraine’s most urgent needs," including energy, reconstruction, demining, and more.

"We must strengthen Ukraine’s resilience in every way," said Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa.

According to the Swedish government’s official website, the aid package will address Ukraine’s most pressing needs in areas such as energy supply, housing, healthcare, demining, refugee support, and independent media. Key components of the package include:

450 million SEK ($40.5 million) to support Ukraine’s energy needs before and during the winter, including electricity generation and the repair of critical infrastructure;

385 million SEK ($34.6 million) allocated to the World Bank’s Ukraine Reconstruction Trust Fund to support the repair of energy and housing infrastructure, assistance for refugees, and efforts to “strengthen the country’s administrative capacity and its ability to provide public services”;

100 million SEK ($9 million) earmarked for demining operations and economic recovery in contaminated areas;

30 million SEK ($2.7 million) to support independent Ukrainian media;

25 million SEK ($2.25 million) dedicated to strengthening Ukraine’s justice sector;

10 million SEK ($900,000) designated for vocational training in logistics and transport to enhance the Ukrainian labor market.

The package also includes additional support for basic humanitarian needs such as food, housing, emergency assistance, and heating.

This humanitarian assistance follows Sweden’s recent military aid announcement. As previously reported, Stockholm will supply Ukraine with weaponry valued at $836 million, including 18 new Archer artillery systems and 155 mm ammunition worth $327 million. Once delivered, Ukraine will possess a total of 44 Archer systems, which Ukrainian forces have praised for their effectiveness against Russian targets.
