Switzerland tightens stance on Russia by adopting EU sanctions package

Switzerland has aligned itself with the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, adding 16 educators and leaders of youth organisations and children’s centres, including institutions in newly incorporated regions, according to a statement from the Swiss government cited by TASS.

Among the listed entities are the Russian children’s centres “Orlyonok” and “Alyye Parusa,” the Nakhimov Naval School of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Sevastopol branch of DOSAAF, and the military-patriotic club “Patriot.”

Swiss authorities stated that the sanctions are based on alleged involvement of the listed individuals and organisations in the evacuation of Ukrainian children from conflict zones at the start of the war, their relocation to Russia, and their subsequent care.

The measures are set to take effect on June 17 at 01:00 Baku time.

Similar restrictions were introduced by the European Union on May 11.
